The British newspaper The Telegraph has included Malaysia in its list of the world's top 25 must-visit destinations for 2025, highlighting it as Asia's most beloved country.
According to The Telegraph, Malaysia offers a rich tapestry of cultures and remarkable biodiversity, ranging from expansive coral reefs to lush rainforests. The capital city, Kuala Lumpur, is noted for its rapid development, with several skyscrapers and hotel projects slated for completion this year, further enhancing its status as a dynamic, modern metropolis.
As Malaysia assumes the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year, visitors can anticipate a variety of festivals and events throughout the country.
In addition to Malaysia, The Telegraph's list features two other Asian destinations: Vietnam and Sri Lanka. In Vietnam, travelers are encouraged to explore Ho Chi Minh City for its concerts, cultural events, and fireworks displays, as well as historical and cultural landmarks in Hanoi and Hoi An.
As of November last year, Vietnam welcomed nearly 16 million foreign visitors, while Malaysia, recognized as Asia's most-loved country in a survey by American finance site Insider Monkey, received 22.5 million during the same period.
The Telegraph compiled its list by consulting travel experts to recommend destinations that are relatively unexplored and free from "overtourism." The selection criteria included factors such as atmosphere, culture, accommodation, flight routes, accessibility, and cost, catering to a range of budgets from economical packages to luxury vacations.
Other destinations featured in the list include Italy, Colombia, Switzerland, Australia, and Ireland.
